OREM, Utah — An Orem woman was booked into the Utah County Jail after she allegedly stole thousands of dollars in musical instruments from her employer.

Police were first notified about the missing instruments on March 1 after employees at Summerhays Music, 1006 S State St., had conducted an inventory of the store.

Guitars, trumpets and violins valued at more than $25,000 had been stolen from a storage area at the store, Orem police said.

On April 8, an Orem detective found an eBay listing for a trumpet. The listing included photos of the instrument, one of which showed its serial number. The detective matched the serial number to a trumpet that was taken from Summerhays Music.

The detective then found that the eBay seller was one of the store’s employees. Police obtained a search warrant for the home of 19-year-old Kalen Jones, where they said they recovered 12 of the stolen instruments.

Jones faces a first-degree felony charge of possession of stolen property. She is being held on a $5,000 bail.
