SALT LAKE CITY–The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Saturday plans to build a temple in Cedar City, Utah, and Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The announcement came from LDS President Thomas S. Monson at the beginning of the 183rd Annual General Conference in Salt Lake City.

The Cedar City temple will be the 17th in Utah, and the second temple in Utah’s southwest region.

The Rio De Janeiro temple will be the eighth temple in Brazil.

Monson also announced the Church will be creating 58 new missions to accommodate the growing amount of missionaries since the lowering of missionary age eligibility.

Also, for the first time in LDS General Conference history, a woman will give a prayer.

Jean Stevens, a member of the Primary Presidency, will give the closing prayer at the end of the Saturday session.
