SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Mission celebrated Easter Sunday with a special feast for homeless people and others in need.

Hundreds of people gathered at Pioneer Park for a free turkey feast, entertainment and Easter sermons. Clothing and personal care items were handed out at the event.

Brad Jaques, public relations for Salt Lake City Mission, said their goal was to celebrate Jesus Christ and his resurrection as well as provide an Easter blessing for the homeless.

“A lot of these people don’t have anywhere to go on the holiday, so we’re down here providing a home atmosphere for them, and a lot of people have been coming for years, and they really feel like they’re at home here,” he said.

The Salt Lake City Mission said they served about 30 percent more meals at this event than in years past. Jaques said the mission has been hosting the event for 20 years.

Jaques said the meals and other items donated are important, but he said it’s something else that matters most.

“I think the best thing that we have is to share some love,” he said.
