SPANISH FORK, Utah -- Thousands of people gathered at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork on Saturday to cover themselves and others in colored powder to celebrate the coming of spring.

The Spanish Fork Festival of Color celebrates Holi and announces the arrival of spring and the passing of winter, according to the temple’s website. This is the largest such festival in the U.S. Those who come to the festival toss handfuls of colored powders, which combine in the air and cover the crowd. The event also features live music, yoga, mantras, dance and food.

Attendees said the event is about coming closer together and celebrating life and warmth.

“You make friends with people you wouldn’t think you’d ever meet,” one attendee said.

“It’s about love, everybody is hugging each other,” another attendee added.

The event began Saturday morning and goes until 8 p.m. It continues on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a color throwing every two hours. Click here for more information.
