OGDEN, Utah  -- A man was arrested over the weekend after he shot a woman because he believed doing so would ease his headache.

Police said 27-year-old Adam Joel Hastings shot the woman in the stomach around 2 a.m. on Sunday. The incident occurred near the 900 block of Orchard Avenue. Officers found Hastings hiding in a ditch with a gun when they responded.

Hastings told police that his head was hurting, and he said he believed the only way to stop the pain was to shoot the woman. Police said they found drugs in Hasting’s possession. He has been booked on charges of attempted homicide.

The woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
