FARMINGTON, Utah – The Davis County School District may be changing its drug testing policy for athletes.

The district is considering a random drug testing policy for student athletes, cheerleaders and student government officers.

If the policy is adopted, five students could be tested randomly each week. Those who test positive would sit out of games or performances, but would not be criminally charged.

“They are pretty sure that there are kids out there that are using performance enhancing substances along with kids just using drugs and so they want to get to the bottom of it,” said Chris Williams, Davis County School District spokesman.

A final vote on the policy change will take place on April 16.
