Weber State basketball hosts Cal Poly on March 20

OGDEN, Utah — Weber State’s season will continue.

The Wildcat men’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament for the second-straight season. Weber State host Cal Poly on Wednesday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.

This marks the fifth straight season the Wildcats have advanced to postseason play and the second-straight year in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The tournament includes 32 teams from across the country with all games played on campus sites. Second round games and opponents will be determined after the first round games are complete.

Weber State is 26-6 on the season and finished 18-2 in Big Sky play, finishing second in the league standings. The 26 wins is tied for the second most wins in school history and is the most wins of any team in the CollegInsider.com Tournament. Weber State saw its 13 game winning streak snapped with a 67-64 loss at Montana in the Big Sky Tournament title game Saturday night in Missoula.

Cal Poly enters the tournament with an 18-13 overall record and finished third in the Big West Conference with a mark of 12-6. They started the season 9-11 before winning nine of their next 10 games. They lost 55-53 to Pacific in the semifinals of the Big West Tournament Friday and Pacific went on to win the tournament title.

The Mustangs are coached by Joe Callero who is in his fourth season at Cal Poly. They have been led by junior Chris Eversley who is averaging 15.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Eversley earned first team All-Big West honors this season. Senior Dylan Royer is averaging 10.1 points a game for Cal Poly.

This will be the first meeting ever between the two schools. Cal Poly competes in the Big West in all sports except football where it is a new member of the Big Sky.

Tickets for  Wednesday’s game will go on sale Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the Dee Events Center Ticket Office. Tickets will be $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth (17 and under) and seniors (65 and older) and $5.00 for Weber State students.
