SALT LAKE CITY — A bill that would have required the state to offer sex education training for parents was voted down in the House of Representatives today.

Senate Bill 39 was defeated in the house with 50 votes against and 16 in favor. The bill would have led to the creation of a website for parents to use that contains all of the information being taught in sex education classes in Utah schools.

The bill’s sponsor was Sen. Stuart Reid, R-District 18, and he said sex education is a topic that should be taught in the home by parents. Other lawmakers argued that there is already enough information available online for parents to utilize.
