WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- West Valley Police arrested a man Monday after he led police on a short chase.

Police said 20-year-old Adam Thayne stole a car. He was arrested near a Dollar Tree store on 4700 South near Bangerter Highway at approximately 8 a.m.

Thayne was arrested on foot after he had ditched the car near the Peppertree Park Apartments in West Valley City.

Police said the whole incident was short and the community was not in serious danger.

"It was a brief chase... the speeds were relatively slow, around 35 to 45 miles per hour," said Sgt. Jeff Conger, West Valley City Police. "He went through a fielded area, which our vehicles weren't able to follow him at that time, but he just went a short distance after that, ditched the vehicle and then we set up a containment and were able to find him."

The vehicle was only reported stolen Monday morning and had not yet been placed in the state system.

According to police, vehicle will be returned to its owner without damage.
