SALT LAKE CITY -- A crowd of people, many of them carrying guns, gathered at the Utah State Capitol despite the wind and snow to rally in support of gun rights and the Second Amendment.

The event was part of a larger movement called “Day of Resistance,” and the rally in Salt Lake City was one of several similar events held across the nation. Those in attendance voiced their concerns that the government is encroaching on their right to bear arms.

The event organizer, Nichole Woolsey, said she doesn’t own a gun, but she still believes in protecting gun rights.

“For me this wasn’t a gun issue: It was a freedom issue,” she said. “I saw rights being attacked and law-abiding citizens being demonized and criminalized, and I wanted to stand up for them.”

The specific details and extent of possible gun restrictions is unknown for now, but those at the rally said they hope lawmakers will hear their voices and support their cause.
