Man rescued on Utah-Arizona border

ST. GEORGE — A man was rescued after his vehicle broke down in a remote part of the Utah-Arizona border.

Mohave County, Ariz., sheriff’s deputies said Wednesday that Matt Telford, 27, had gone hiking on Saturday in the Arizona Strip. When he didn’t return home, his mother called police.

Search and rescue teams responded and while en route, the sheriff’s office said, were contacted by a rancher.

“The rancher advised that while he was traveling to St George, he discovered several arrows placed in the roadway. The arrows were made of rocks and timber,” the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“Upon checking the area, SAR members located Telford in good health. Telford advised that he placed the arrows as a signal to his whereabouts after his vehicle had broken down. Telford was reunited with his family.”
