ALPINE, Utah – The Alpine City Council approved a drug recovery center for a residential area on Wednesday.

The council approved the Alpine Lodge Rehab Center, but they reduced the number of residents from 18 to 12.  Neighbors opposed to the facility said they are concerned about drug use and other impacts on the community, but federal law allows the facility to be set up in a residential area.

The approval came a little less than a month after the council met with those who would become neighbors to the facility.

Patients at the center would go through drug and alcohol rehabilitation for 30-90 days. The center is expected to open in April.
