SALT LAKE CITY — The Human Rights Education Center of Utah participated in a month-long interfaith celebration on Saturday with a workshop focused on people working together.

People of different faiths from across the state gathered to attend a workshop titled “A Convening Conversation” at St. Marks Episcopal Cathedral, located 231 East 100 South. The event was in conjunction with the Interfaith Roundtable and their month-long interfaith celebration, according to a press release from the Utah HREC.

Carla Kelley is the founder and director of the Human Rights Education Center of Utah, and she said the goal of the gathering was to show people of all religions that they are more alike than they are different.

“This is about our common humanity and honoring each other as common human beings,” she said. “We are the more the same than we are different.”

This was the fourth year the HREC has been involved in Interfaith Month. Kelley said the event brought together people from various areas involvement, from those heavily involved with social justice to those who are active in their churches. She said they all came together to discuss ways to help the community.

“It’s a time to convene, to talk, to cross differences, and know that yet, at the end of it all, we’re all human,” she said.
