SALT LAKE CITY -- Some Utah mothers have taken a special interest in the legislative session, and they’ve decided to blog about bills that could impact Utah families.

Karen Peterson is a stay-at-home mom with three children, and she blogs about the political process in Utah.

“I felt like that was a niche that kind of was missing, that people needed information about that,” she said.

Peterson has a degree in political science from Utah State University, and she opened her forum after becoming concerned over some political issues. She decided to blog about them to help busy mothers know what’s happening.

“They don’t have the time to sit and read bills on the legislature website, and I thought if I could just write this up in a simple way and share it with my friends then they would do something about it,” she said.

Peterson’s blog focuses on the legislative session, but it also covers issues and elections throughout the year. Peterson said she hopes her efforts can help change the way people think and feel about the governmental process.

“I think the purpose of the blog is just to get good information out there that then people can act. I would hope that people wouldn’t just read the blog, but that they would read the blog and then say, ‘I am concerned about that. I am going to find out more. I am going to read more, and then I am going to do something about it.’” She said.
