SALT LAKE CITY - A local U.S. military veteran is giving other veterans the chance to find jobs through a new website.

6.3 percent of U.S. military veterans are unemployed, and Navy veteran Martin Lee is looking to change that.

"These guys have the skills. All they're asking for is a chance to go out there and get a job," Lee said.

Lee says veterans are dedicated, driven, loyal; all the things you'd want in an employee, so he created veteranselance.us, a website dedicated to helping servicemen and women find freelance work.

Veterans can access the website to find a variety of freelance jobs posted by employers. They start by creating their own profile and listing job qualifications, then they can browse through posted jobs and discuss those jobs directly with hiring managers.

"It's not send in a resume, it's not waiting for a phone call, it's you talking to a guy and you're putting your business out there," Lee said.

The website is free to veterans. There's a 7 percent posting fee for employers. Most of the proceeds will be donated to veteran service organizations to help further help our current and former servicemen and women.
