Water was seen spraying 30-40 feet in the air after a water main break on Main Street in Salt Lake City Thursday afternoon.

It happened around 3 p.m. at 837 S Main Street. Police were called to the scene to help divert traffic away from the break.

Water officials shut off the broken main at 3:25 so crews could repair it. A city water official said the break was likely caused by freezing and thawing of ground around the pipe.

There was no major damage, but traffic was blocked until the water could be shut off. Water was not available to businesses on Main Street between 800 S and 900 S while repair work was being performed.
