Utahns are expected to mail nearly 2 million cards and packages on Monday, making it the busiest mailing day of the year, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

To avoid the crowds, the U.S. Postal Service suggests the following:

  • Shop from home usingusps.com,print shipping labels and receive free package pickup
  • Use Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes
  • Use self-service ship and mail centers, located in 30 postal lobbies across the Wasatch Front. The centers allow customers to purchase stamps, weigh and mail cards and packages 24/7.

The Postal Service expects to deliver 365 million packages this holiday season, a 20 percent increase over last year. The busiest delivery days are expected to be Dec. 19 and 20.

Be sure to keep these dates in mind when sending mail to U.S. addresses if you would like your item to arrive by Christmas: Dec. 20 for First-class mail, Dec. 21 for Priority Mail and Dec. 22 for Express Mail.
