SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake County Council approved its new budget on Friday.

The new budget includes a 16 percent property tax increase. That means the average household in Salt Lake County will see their bill go up about $77 a year.

The budget incudes a 22 percent increase to fund library operations.

“Clearly a majority of the county council as well as the mayor felt that we could no longer cut without compromising our services,” said Arlyn Bradshaw, county council member. “Both our criminal justice services as well as library services was a big component of this.”

The council voted 7 to 2 in favor of the budget.
