WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - Investigators say that a fire that burned nine cars in West Valley City on Tuesday morning is suspicious.

The fire sparked just after midnight at 2200 West and 3688 South in West Valley City. A carport and nine cars are destroyed, for a total of $120,000 in damages.

The West Valley City Fire Dept. is calling the fire a likely arson, but they don't have a suspect right now.

Firefighters say the fire could have been far more destructive with residents asleep nearby. Fortunately no one was seriously injured.

"The proximity to the buildings; several of the buildings receive cracked windows so you had cars parked next to the building that received quite a bit of damage so there is great potential for a lot of damage. Especially at midnight when people are usually asleep," said West Valley City Fire Marshal Bob Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald says a witness reports seeing a white vehicle - a truck, SUV or van - in the area. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.
