WEST POINT, Utah -- A cat shot in the head survives thanks to a Davis County veterinarian. Davis County Animal Services is asking for the public's help in finding the person responsible.

The West Point area cat, named Tennessee, had a BB pellet lodged close to his brain.

The outdoor, family cat's owners said the incident likely happened in mid-November. The family said they noticed something wrong with Tennessee as she kept coughing and scratching at her face.

After a local veterinarian discovered the pellet, Tennessee underwent surgery to remove it.

Clint Thacker, with Davis County Animal Services, said they see incidents of animal cruelty about three to four times a year. As an example, last year a cat was brought in with three blow darts in it.

"I've been doing this for over 10 years now, and some things I do see still shock me that humans do to animals, but the more surprising thing is that these animals that are done to it, can still love us," Thacker said.

Investigators are calling this an act of animal cruelty. If the person responsible if located, he could face a felony charge.

Anyone with information is asked to call Animal Services at 801-444-2200. The tip can be made anonymously.
