SALT LAKE CITY – A recognition program was held in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, plus 24 national cemeteries overseas, simultaneously on Monday.

The program was sponsored by a non-profit organization called Wreaths Across America, where wreaths are placed annually at the grave sites of fallen veterans.

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, a veteran, says it’s a small but powerful gesture to remember.

“It’s important for all of us to remember; it causes us to do things differently. If we remember, it causes us to act differently, it allows us all to reflect and say, ‘What can I do to serve,’ so it is important. It’s a powerful thing for us all to remember – particularly remember together,” Herbert said.
