SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Transportation Authority celebrated the opening on the new FrontRunner Provo to Salt Lake City line on Thursday.

After four years and $850 million, the new line between Salt Lake City and Provo will begin service on Dec. 10.

"Yet again an excited day for Provo, for transportation," said Provo Mayor John Curtis. "This is economic development, it's quality of life, it's good for our environment, just on many levels this is a good thing for Provo."

The FrontRunner South line stretches 45 miles and stops at seven stations: Murray Central, South Jordan, Draper, Lehi, American Fork, Orem and Provo. It also connects to the current FrontRunner system in Davis and Weber Counties.

"This 90 miles is going to connect workforce. They're going to connect people that are going to be able to commute.," said Greg Hughes, UTA board member.

On Saturday, December 8, the Utah Transit Authority is offering free test rides to the public with the donation of a canned good.
