OGDEN, Utah -- Myers Mortuary in Ogden teamed up with Operation Adopt a Ghost to stuff Christmas stockings and bags for soldiers in Afghanistan on Tuesday.

The gifts are going to 500 soldiers with Utah ties serving in Afghanistan.

They have been collecting donations since October. Items in the stockings include CDs, food, batteries, videos, and other items that give soldiers a feeling of home.

The volunteers are working to get the stockings into the mail by Tuesday afternoon.

Operation Adopt a Ghost has served thousands of military members and their families over the last few years.

"They need to know that we are here, and that is one of the letters I got back from last summer on our Christmas in July program. He said we know how people are feeling back here and it encourages us to stay here and to do our job and to know that there is someone supporting us," said Katie King-Brockman, Myers Mortuary.

The donations began four years ago with about 40 stockings. Last year, they made 700 stockings.
