CENTERVILLE, Utah - Kids and police officers were paired up on Saturday for the annual Shop with a Cop event in Centerville.

86 police officers and 70 kids patrolled the aisles of Walmart on Saturday morning looking for the perfect gifts.

"We come out and help the kids find the presents they need for themselves and their family," said Officer Jason Matthews.

Shop with a Cop is a longstanding tradition that allows children in need to have a shopping spree alongside an officer in uniform, all with donated money.

While the season of giving is highlighted, children are encouraged to treat themselves to gifts, too, but officers say some children only want to give rather than receive.

"We had a child show up and everything they had was for someone else. They weren't getting anything for themself they were getting things for family members," said Davis County Police Officer Dave Edwards.
