Crews responded to a porch fire in Sandy early Friday morning.

It happened near 9900 South Poppy Lane at approximately 12:30 a.m.

A neighbor was letting their dog out when they saw the flames and called police.

The fire started near the back of the house and crew believe it was caused by an electrical problem.

There was damage to the siding of the house, but crews were able to arrive quickly and put out the fire.

“Sandy police arrived, knocked on the door, make sure everybody was out,” said Bruce Cline, deputy chief, Sandy Fire Department. “We were about ready to kick the door in when the home owner opened up. They did go in and help the family get out of the house safely.”

No one was injured. The family stayed in a hotel for the rest of the night thanks to the Sandy Lifesaver Program.

The official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
