SALT LAKE CITY – A group of uninsured Utahns and low income advocates are asking Governor Gary Herbert to support Medicaid expansion.

Representatives from the Crossroads Urban Center presented a survey showing low income Utahns are more likely to be uninsured than other Utahns.

The Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, expands Medicaid to cover everyone who is eligible for the food stamp program.

“Expanding Medicaid to cover people who really need health insurance makes a huge difference,” said Marjorie Hurder with the Crossroads Urban Center. “It would help so, so many people be able to get the care they need.”

Governor Herbert’s office has received the survey. The governor and legislators will make a decision on whether to include funding for the Medicaid expansion during their 6-week session that begins at the end of January.
