ROY, Utah – A SWAT standoff in Roy leaves police with lots of questions.

The call came in around 4:45 Tuesday afternoon. Police say the caller told them there was a hostage situation at 5300 South and 3375 West.

When officers arrived, they say the alleged suspect in the hostage situation left the house and surrendered to police. Meanwhile, the alleged victim barricaded himself inside.

Roy Police Chief Greg Whinham says the alleged victim has misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest and didn’t want to go to jail. Officers negotiated with the man and he did surrender to police.

Four people were taken in for questioning to try and sort out what happened to lead to the 911 call.

“All of these people know each other,” said Whinham. “They’re all connected in some way and we’ll go through the process of trying to establish that.”

Whinham says they believe an argument between the individuals escalated. Roads in the neighborhood were shut down for over an hour while officers searched the area and cleared the scene.
