SALT LAKE CITY - Businesses saw record crowds on Black Friday, and small businesses got in on the deal with Small Business Saturday.

Shoppers packed into The King's English bookstore on Saturday. The independent shop in Salt Lake City's 15th and 15th district got a boost from the Small Business Administration's attempt to help local retailers get a share of the big weekend shopping.

Customers at The Bead Fairy craft store say they shop local because they can find items they can't buy anywhere else.

"The Bead Fairy carries items that aren't found at other craft stores, so I was specifically looking for bales. They're used to hang pendants on chains or wires," said Sue Brunstetter, a local shopper.

Rylee Bateman, an employee at The Bead Fairy, says business has picked up with the holiday season coming.

Nationwide last year, more than 100 million people went to independent local businesses on Small Business Saturday.
