LOGAN, Utah - Family and friends honored the life and memory an 11-year-old Pleasant View girl who died after being impaled by a plastic rod last weekend.
Last Saturday, Nikki Clark was using a plastic curtain rod to play fetch with her puppy. When she ran up the stairs to her house, she fell and impaled herself with the rod. She pulled it back out, tearing an artery.
After two days, Nikki's family and friends surrounded her at the hospital as she passed away.
"When the doctors told us there was no hope. We all surrounded her and filled the room with love as she drifted off," said Cathy Babbitt, a great-aunt.
Nikki Clark's family will remember her as a funny girl whose kindness was beyond her years. They shared memories of her at a funeral in Logan on Saturday morning.
"All the times and memories I spent with Nikki I will hold close to my heart. Especially all those nights we would lay in my bed giggling, making funny noises and saying funny phrases only we would understand," said Rachael Martin, a friend.
Nikki's sisters all talked about how their little sister loved to play hide and go seek.
"After a few rounds it was her turn to find us. Well I got the smart idea to hide in the washer," said Madeline Clark, Nikki's sister. "I got stuck. Nikki and Amanda were laughing. Nikki her face was full of tears laughing at me so hard."
Nikki's family doesn't have health insurance and is asking for donations to cover hospital bills. A fund has been set up at U.S. Bank under the name Nichole Gale Clark. Several people have already stepped forward to pay for the funeral expenses.
