PAYSON, Utah – Charges have been filed against the owners of several dogs involved in attacks in Utah County that left 18 sheep dead.

The charges include allowing dogs to run at large, allowing attacks by dogs and maintaining a public nuisance. The misdemeanors are punishable by up to six months in jail and up to $1,000 in fines.

“We’re also asking that the owners of the dogs be required to make restitution to the owners of the sheep for the losses that they’ve sustained,” said Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

The owners of the sheep say their losses range between $11,000 and 20,000.
