Assault charges filed in fight involving BYU players

Charges were filed Thursday in connection with a Halloween night assault allegedly involving BYU football players.

The fight broke out in the early morning hours of Nov. 1 at Rancherito’s on State Street. Provo police say there were several people involved.

The Provo City Attorney’s Office filed misdemeanor charges of assault against Matthew Santos, 20, Alexander Jackman, 21, Zachary Stout, 21, and Joe Sampson, 23.

On November 8, BYU Football coach Bronco Mendenhall announced Senior Defensive Back Joe Sampson and Sophomore Linebacker Zachary Stout were suspended from the team and withdrawn from school for the year.
