MIDVALE, Utah -- Eight people were arrested Tuesday afternoon following a standoff with Unified Police.

Police say SWAT teams assisted them after several suspects in a car jacking investigation allegedly refused to come out of an apartment at 6960 S. State.

After following up on a home invasion and theft of a Land Rover SUV Tuesday morning, Unified Police officers said their investigation led them to the Wasatch Club Apartments. They surrounded apartment 715, where officers said the suspects refused to come out.

Police called the suspects on the phone and negotiated for some time. Through the process of several hours they were able to get seven people in custody without incident.

"We had some of our SWAT team go in and clear the apartment and there was no one else inside that residence," said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

With seven detained, police then moved a few blocks south to a Motel 6 for one more man connected to the carjacking.

“We found the suspect inside a silver Pontiac Firebird. We were able to take him into custody without further incident,” said Hoyal.
