FBI, credit union offering up to $70K reward for AK-47 Bandit

SALT LAKE CITY – The FBI is asking for help from the public in identifying and locating a man known as the AK-47 Bandit who is suspected of robbing banks in California, Idaho and Washington.

According to FBI agents, the suspect robbed a Rexburg, Idaho, credit union on Thursday. The masked gunman was armed with an assault rifle when he ordered customers and employees into the vault, then left with cash. No one was injured, though police consider him dangerous.

Police believe the man is also responsible for other bank robberies in several cities in California and Washington.

The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction. The Idaho credit union is also offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information on the suspect.

The suspect is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 220 pounds. During the Idaho robbery, he was wearing a mask, black gloves, a black coat and Levis. He left in a dark blue sedan with tinted windows and was last seen heading south on South Yellowstone Highway.
