DRAPER, Utah - A student is in critical but stable condition after a fall at Juan Diego High School on Friday afternoon.

Unified Fire spokesman Cliff Burningham says 14-year-old Pete Benda feel 15 to 20 feet at around 12:20 p.m. Friday. Benda was working on some kind of lift in the school's auditorium when he fell to the floor. The exact cause of the fall is still under investigation.

School spokesperson Molly Dumas says Benda suffered a broken pelvis, broken leg and head injuries. He's listed in critical but stable condition at Intermountain Medical Center.

Dumas says Juan Diego is a close knit community, so students wanted to do something to show their support of Benda and his family.

“Students decided they would have a prayer service in our grotto," said Dumas. "That was wonderful, they were able to pray the rosary, even kids who were non-Catholic, we all got together and prayed."

The school canceled its production of "The Drowsy Chaperone" Friday night. Students have posted messages of support on Juan Diego High School's Facebook page here.
