DRAPER, Utah - A group of paragliders and hang gliders soared above the Point of the Mountain on Saturday afternoon as a celebration of the special piece of land set aside just for their flights.

The wind funnels along the Point of the Mountain and hits the ridge, creating a wave of air that's perfect for paragliders and hang gliders.

They were out on the mountain Saturday as a thanks to the Geneva Rocks Production, who owns the land, and Salt Lake County for helping them preserve the park.

"It's a very cool thing to do and I love that the county lets us do it. That's a special thing," said paraglider Emily Yates.

The area is a state-sanctioned flight park, something Kristjan Morgan with the Utah Hang Gliding and Paragliding Assocation says is something you don't find very often.

"It's a state sanctioned flight park in the middle of an urban environment. There's not too many places in the world that you can find something like this," Morgan said.

The gliders can be seen across the valley, but they say the view from above is much better.
