OGDEN, Utah -- The first commercial flight landed at Ogden-Hinckley Airport Thursday.

The inaugural flight from Phoenix/Mesa to Ogden landed at about 8:40 a.m. and carried about 160 passengers. The return flight will take off from Ogden at about 12:40 p.m. Thursday.

The flights are offered on Allegiant, which is based in Las Vegas. Flights will run twice a week of Thursdays and Sundays.

City leaders said they hope the new commercial flight will help attract more people to northern Utah.

"We believe that Mesa is a great sister city for us. People can come up in the winter and ski Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, some of our great resorts," said Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell. "We are really excited about it, we think it will be a great match."

Caldwell said the central location of the airport to downtown where there are hotels, restaurants and the city's walkable community is also an advantage.

Ogden is hoping demand will increase of the years and more services will be available to other areas of the country.
