WEST VALLEY CITY -- The Utah Department of Transportation’s Mountain View Corridor Project will include a new off-ramp behind Hunter High and some parents and school officials are concerned about traffic safety.

A driveway off of 4100 South serves the high school. With hundreds of students coming and going every day, some say the mix of traffic could be hazardous.

Cornell Porter is a seminary teacher who works near Hunter High. He says UDOT has not done all of its homework when it comes to student safety.

"They did admit that they have never stood and counted or seen the traffic that goes in and out of this area right here,” says Porter.

Mountain View Corridor Project Director Teri Newell says the interchange is not likely to move, but UDOT will take a second look at safety concerns.

"We're confident we can build a safe interchange at 4100 South," says Newell. "See if there's some things we can do in relation to those drive entrances to make that work a little better,” said Newell.

Newell says when the project is completed there will be a 25 percent reduction in traffic on 5600 West, the street where Hunter High’s main entrance is located.
