SALT LAKE CITY – As the long Labor Day weekend approaches, bars across the Wasatch Front are partnering with law enforcement to raise public awareness of the dangers of impaired driving.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign reminds Utahns that while they’re free to drink, they should do it responsibly and not get behind the wheel of a car while impaired.

Utah Public Safety is getting creative to get the point across; patrons at bars this weekend will see coasters with different messages about the dangers of driving after drinking.

“I think it’s great because it gets people awareness of what’s going on, so they know that police are here for their safety making sure the come have a good time and be protected when they go home,” said Jacob Tores, an employee at Lumpy’s Downtown.

Utah Highway Patrol has guidelines on how to stay safe this weekend. First, have a plan about how you’re going to get home from the bar. Second, have a designated driver or someone you can call to pick you up at the end of the night. Third, if you don’t have a plan or designated driver, call a cab.

To make sure drivers stay safe on the roads, law enforcement agencies will be out with an increased presence this weekend to watch out for impaired drivers.
