On Thursday, the fire measured 862 acres and was 20 percent contained, according to officials.

The Lighthouse Fire is burning near Range Creek, east of Price. Rough and steep terrain is making it difficult to fight.

“[It’s] pretty steep, rugged country with a lot of very narrow canyons,” said Jason Curry, Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands. “We do have ground crews there, but our aviation sources are also going to come into play. We’ve got several aircraft working the fire as well and making more of our progress using the aircraft.”

The fire is threatening historic Native American artifacts and wildlife habitats that have been preserved in the canyon.

No homes are in danger of burning and that are no evacuations in place.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Curry said lightning is likely not a factor nor have there been any campfires in the area.
