WSU’s Lillard drafted by Portland

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University’s Damian Lillard was selected by Portland Thursday in the NBA draft.

The Portland Trail Blazers selected Lillard with the sixth pick, making him the highest draft pick in Weber State history. The Trail Blazers finished the season with a 28-36 record.

Lillard, a junior guard from Oakland, Calif., averaged 24.5 points for the Wildcats last season and led them to a 25-7 season with 16-0 at home.

Lillard sits at second in WSU history in scoring with 1,934 career points, first in school history with 246 three-pointers made, first in school history with 520 free throws made and first in school history with 86.7 percent of free throws made. He earned All-American honors from the Associated Press and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

As the number 6 pick, Lillard is expected to make $2.554 million next season.
