SALT LAKE CITY - The 20th annual Downtown Farmers Marker opened for the season in Pioneer Park on Saturday morning.

Thousands of visitors will flock to Pioneer Park every Saturday through October to buy fruits, veggies and other items from local vendors.

"It's a great place to buy local produce. It's a great place to kind of get to know what's in the area," said Ashley Fricker, who shopped at the market on Saturday.

When the market first opened two decades ago, only a few farmers set up shop, but it has grown so popular that the market now spills into adjacent side streets.

"I think that that's kind of a thing in our culture right now is just to be healthy and eat healthier," said Cassie Albrecht, a shopper at the market.

The Downtown Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to dusk. It will last through October.
