SALT LAKE CITY - Senior gardeners in Salt Lake City got an opportunity to exercise their green thumbs this week.

A custom-built garden box arrived at the Paramount Health and Rehabilitation Center this week, and residents were excited to dig in and start planting.

"This will be a very nurturing experience for us as gardeners, and for some of the residents that might never have had a garden," said Kirby Ludvigson, a resident at the center.

Weston Parsons, an administrator at the center, says that the box is a creative and fun way to get exercise.

"It's something that the residents can be involved in but it's also part of their physical and occupational therapies that we provide here. So they're getting better at doing things while having fun," said  Parsons.

The garden box came courtesy of Legend Financial Services and a grant from Burners without Borders.

"They are very empathetic to our limited resources and our ability to get out and experience normal life," said Ludvigson.

Two more garden boxes will be delivered to other facilities this week.
