SALT LAKE CITY — Firefighters were called out to a house fire Monday evening on Salt Lake City’s east side.

Crews arrived at the home on 837 East  and 1340 South (E. Sherman Ave.) at about 7 p.m.

As flames worked their way through the house, firefighters cut holes in the roof to ventilate the fire and to keep the flames from spreading to adjacent homes.

“The fire did get up into the attic and when it gets up into the attic that’s when the flames come. You can see them from as far away as Spring Mobile Ballpark,” said Salt Lake City Fire spokesman Jasen Asay.

Crews say the family was out having dinner when the fire sparked.

Two dogs that were inside are missing. Crews believe they may have ran away.

Investigators are looking into what caused the fire.
