Arrest made in fatal shooting in Murray

MURRAY – Police have arrested the suspect in a fatal Murray shooting.

Murray Police arrested Jonas Rodriguez Perez Saturday morning at a house in Magna. Perez is the key suspect in a fatal party shooting in May. According to Murray Police, various leads led them to a home in Magna where Perez was arrested without incident.

Investigators said two rival gangs had reportedly gotten into a fight at a house party near 593 West and 6640 South in Murray around 4 a.m on May 19. A shot was fired inside the garage, causing people to attempt to flee the scene.

According to a probable cause statement, witnesses identified Perez as the person who fired the hand gun in the garage and chased down 21-year-old Alvert Mike shooting and killing him.

Perez was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for suspicion of murder, weapons violation, two counts of possession of a forged writing device, along with no drivers license. Perez was also detained for being an undocumented immigrant.
