SPANISH FORK CANYON — A woman is dead after a crash on northbound US-89 in Utah County Friday evening.

The  crash occurred near milepost 305 in Spanish Fork Canyon at around 6:30 p.m. Police say a 2009 Mazda 3 was traveling northbound on US-89 when it drifted off to the right side of the road, causing the driver to over-correct and swerve into southbound lanes.

The Mazda clipped a Ford Taurus traveling southbound and began to spin. As the Mazda was spinning, it was rear-ended by a Chevy pick-up truck. Both vehicles drove off the right side of the road and rolled, both landing on their tops.

The driver of the Mazda, 36-year-old Rebecca Dorton, was not wearing a seatbelt. She was partially ejected from her vehicle and died as a medical helicopter was landing at the scene.

Dorton’s 1-year-old son Chance Morrell was transported to Primary Children’s Medical Center via medical helicopter with two broken collar bones and a broken leg. The 48-year-old driver of the Chevy truck, Cladia Munford, was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

US-89 was closed in all directions, but has since reopened.
