Study: Utah boys have highest life expectancy in nation

Utah boys born in 2009 have the highest life expectancy in the nation according to a study from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME).

Utah boys born in 2009 have a life expectancy of 78.8 years, compared to a national average of 76.2 years.  Girls born in 2009 have a life expectancy of 82.2 years, versus 81.3 years nationally.

The study included data for males and females born in 1989, 1999 and 2009.  The data is available for download on the IMHE website.   The study was conducted at the county level and includes statewide numbers which is displayed in their interactive map tool.

The District of Columbia saw the greatest change in life expectancy for both men and women over the course of the study.  Boys born in 2009 have a life expectancy 4.8 years longer than boys born in 1989.  Girls born in 2009 have a life expectancy 3.6 years longer than girls born in 1989.
