SALT LAKE CITY -- A car crashed into ta Salt Lake City church on Saturday night, causing some damage to the side of the church, but the accident didn't stop services.

The congregation at the Church at Liberty Park near 700 East and 1300 South didn't know about the crash until FOX 13 pointed out the damage.

"I didn't know about it until channel 13 came and gave us the news," said David Springer, Senior Pastor, Church at Liberty Park.

Police say a car crashed into the church just before 4 a.m. Sunday, damaging the outside of the church and sending the male driver and a female passenger to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash destroyed the church's lighted sign on the corner, chipped many of the outside stones and cracked the wall.

"We're more about the Lord and what happens on the inside of a person, the outside is just things that we use and that's why we have insurance and I'm sure we'll get it taken care of," said Springer.

The church sits on the intersection of two busy Salt Lake City streets, putting it in a prime location for accidents.

"It's happened before, we had another car go through the same area and miss the building by about a foot. These things happen," said Springer. "We just hope that nobody was hurt and maybe they'll come back and visit sometime."

The church will have a professional come out and determine whether there's structural damage. Springer says the sign needed to be changed anyway.
