KEARNS -- Several competitors took to the ice at the Olympic oval in Kearns earlier this week. But it had nothing to do with skating.

The best butchers from around the country were competing in a national meat-cutting challenge.

“It's an ice rink, so these guys are used to being in the cold. Each of them spend about seven or eight hours in our meat room at each of our locations so they're used to being cold,” said Texas Roadhouse Marketing manager Michele Bishop.

All contestants are Texas Roadhouse employees.

“We have twenty five of the best meat cutters across the country competing for seven spots to make it into the finals,” said Bishop. “We do have a local competing today from Logan, Utah.”

This is the semi-final round, the seven who are a cut above the rest will move on to the finals in Florida where a $20,000 cash prize will go to the winner.

Bishop says the cutters are judged on the quality and speed at cutting up to 40 pounds of beef.
