BOUNTIFUL, Utah — A 17-year-old Viewmont High student is in critical condition after going into seizure following a weightlifting workout Wednesday afternoon.

The male student, whose name has yet to be released, was doing weighted arm curls during an exercise class and felt something “pop” in the back of his head, according to South Davis Metro Fire officials. They said the student was speaking to coaches about the sensation, they assessed him, but the teen soon started twitching and went into a mild seizure.

Metro fire says the student’s condition began to worsen when medical paramedics arrived. He was airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center.
