Diabetes Expo helps sufferers of the disease

Hundreds of people dealing with diabetes gathered at the South Towne Expo Center Saturday to learn more about the life-altering disease.

More than 100,000 of the 25 million people in the US who suffer from diabetes live in Utah and another 45,000 have the disease but have not been diagnosed. Some of those people visited the Diabetes Expo this weekend to learn more about the disease.

"You find out about really neat things you would never know about," said Nancy Smith, who has diabetes.

Visitors were able to learn about cooking for diabetics, information about diabetes, diabetes testing and other ways of making living with diabetes easier.

"Products, programs and services intended to help take action and do something and to promote healthy living," said Marc Cohen with the American Diabetes Association.

The American Diabetes Association, the Utah Department of Health and Harmon's put on Saturday's expo.
